The Rams have finalized their coaching staff for 2024

The Rams were one of several clubs that had to rebuild their coaching staff this offseason.

While replacing staff is always difficult, the Rams are not doing it because they need to terminate anyone; rather, they are replacing coaches who have gone on to bigger opportunities. Head coach Sean McVay is doing what he’s done year after year: bringing in a fresh staff that will undoubtedly thrive under his leadership.

On offense, we already knew about the hirings of quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone to replace Zac Robinson, senior offensive assistant Jerry Schuplinski, and offensive assistant and pass game specialist Nate Scheelhaase, albeit the “offensive assistant” part of the job is new.

Furthermore, tight ends coach Nick Caley now holds the role of pass-game coordinator, which Robinson previously held. Finally, with K.J. Black and Nick Jones joining Robinson and former defensive coordinator Raheem Morris in Atlanta, Los Angeles has hired Rob Calabrese, a former Jets quarterbacks coach. Calabrese takes a step back after three years at his first NFL coaching job.

The largest upheaval will occur on the defensive side of the ball, since Morris has left to become the Falcons’ next head coach. We’ve already covered Giff Smith’s replacement of Eric Henderson as defensive line coach and run game coordinator, the hiring of former Eagles defensive coordinator Sean Desai as a senior defensive assistant, and the departure of assistant head coach Jimmy Lake, who left to become Morris’ defensive coordinator in Atlanta.

Los Angeles’ update provided us with some pending information for the remainder of the defensive staff. We first learned that former Packers pass-game coordinator Greg Williams had interviewed for the Rams’ inside linebackers coaching position, and now we know that he has been officially hired to replace Chris Shula, who was promoted to defensive coordinator.

Chris Beake’s formal title has been changed from secondary coach to safeties coach, and while assistant defensive line coach AC Carter interviewed for the position that went to Smith after Henderson’s departure, Carter will continue in his current function.

Shula has also kept defensive assistant Mike Harris, defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant, and outside linebackers coach Joe Coniglio In their current jobs

Finally, the Rams signed Chili Davis as their assistant special teams coach to replace Jeremy Springer, who left to become the special teams coordinator in New England.

Davis will assume his first NFL position after spending the last 11 years coaching at various colleges. He most recently worked as special teams coordinator at Florida A&M in 2022, before moving to Manhattan to become Kansas State’s special teams quality control coach.

In addition, John Streicher has joined the coaching team as game management coordinator. Streicher has spent the last six seasons in Tennessee, most recently serving as the Titans’ director of football administration.

There you have it: the Rams’ 2024 coaching staff. At this point in his career in Los Angeles, McVay is no stranger to rearranging his staff. He was able to comeback from a difficult 2022 season to make the playoffs, and with this new staff, he’ll strive to return to the sport’s summit after winning it all in 2021.
