The pecking order for Ohio quarterbacks has been established

The Ohio State football team is still looking for its next quarterback.

We know they’ve been looking around the transfer portal, and they’ve been linked to a few people. There has been some speculation that they have developed a pecking list for who they may desire.

The Buckeyes appear to be sticking with Riley Leonard as their top target. Leonard entered the transfer portal following a year marred by injuries at Duke. He was a standout for the Blue Devils in 2022, and he would be a wonderful addition to the Ohio State football squad.

Leonard visited Notre Dame the last two days but did not make a commitment. It has been reported that he will be visiting the Buckeyes soon. Leonard, in my opinion, is the best quarterback on the transfer portal right now, even ahead of Dillon Gabriel.

Of course, the Buckeyes have also been linked to Washington State’s Cam Ward. When Ward entered the portal, he was one of the first names associated with Ohio State. Because of his decision-making abilities, I believe Leonard would be a better fit than Ward.

Leonard does not turn the ball over as frequently as Ward. He’s also more dangerous running the ball. He’d have a lot more targets to throw to at Ohio State than he did in Durham. He’d be able to put up some impressive numbers before moving on to the NFL.

Personally, I’d be content with either of these guys for a year. Both are capable players who can lead the Buckeyes to victories in a variety of situations. It’s still uncertain which one they’ll get, but I’m sure they’ll make a decision in the next couple of weeks or so.
