The new play-by-play commentators for the Twins are known voices

Following the completion of his contract to take over as the Twins’ new play-by-play announcer on television, Cory Provus contacted his wife, and then he called Dan Gladden, his longtime broadcast partner and radio analyst, whom he refers to as his “work wife.”

“Listen, our divorce is not going to happen!” Gladden called Provus and told him.

But while still centered on the familiar, things will undoubtedly change by 2024 and beyond. For its play-by-play future, the Twins are keeping things in-house, enlisting two stalwart members of the organization to represent the team from their radio and television booths.

After serving as the Twins’ radio voice for 12 years, the club announced on Friday that Provus will assume the role of lead television play-by-play. Meanwhile, Kris Atteberry, a longtime radio studio host, will begin his 18th season with the organization as lead radio play-by-play on the Treasure Island Baseball Network.

Provus declared, “I just really want to do this.” I’ve always considered myself to be ambitious and self-challenging, and this is by far the greatest challenge I’ve ever faced. And now that I think about it, I think I would regret not at least trying to join this organization in this manner.

“I’m overjoyed,” Atteberry exclaimed. “I’m overjoyed. Obviously, there are many people to whom I owe a deep sense of thanks. First and foremost, I feel really fortunate and honored to work for a company that values radio greatly—from our founders to our team president and beyond.

The Twins’ contract with Diamond Sports Group, the parent company of Bally Sports North, expired at the end of the 23 season, and they have yet to confirm their television broadcast home for the 2024 season and beyond.

However, this offseason has already been one of change, since these personnel adjustments are the result of veteran television play-by-play guy Dick Bremer switching from being the Twins’ television voice for 40 years to a front office ambassador job.

According to a statement from Twins president Dave St. Peter, “Cory and Kris have been essential parts of the soundtrack of spring, summer, and fall across Twins Territory for many years and we are thrilled to continue these relationships as they step into their new roles.” “I am extremely confident that both will carry on the Twins’ tradition of broadcast excellence because of the bonds they create throughout our organization and their special storytelling ability.”

Provus stated that leaving radio, which has served as his main platform for his illustrious broadcasting career that includes MLB stints with the Cubs, Brewers, and Twins, wasn’t an easy choice. In addition to his new position with the Twins, he has worked as a television play-by-play analyst for both basketball and football on the Big Ten Network.

He started working at the Minnesota booth in 2012, and he stated that one of the main reasons he decided to go to television was to assist expand the broadcast’s reach and accessibility, which included the planned removal of blackout restrictions in 2024.

That was a major motivator for me, according to Provus. “All right, blackouts will stop if I do this. It will be easier to get Twins baseball. That was really thrilling to me and kind of propelled me in the right way, suggesting that now would be the perfect moment to follow this road and give it a go. Thus, that accounted for a significant portion of it.

Having hosted the Pregame and Postgame Lineup Card show on the Treasure Island Baseball Network for 17 seasons, and filling in for Atteberry and Gladden when needed, Atteberry has put in his time. He said that throughout the years, he had considered giving up “a million times,” but in the end, he was able to see through the fantasy he had carried since he was six years old and was growing up in Montana.
