‘The narrative will be…’: What Vincent Kompany stated right away following Burnley’s loss to Arsenal

Vincent Kompany put on a “disciplined” and “mature” display, but he was left to lament a few pivotal moments in Burnley’s loss to Arsenal.

Though they played well overall in North London, the Clarets lost to the Emirates for the seventh time in their league history.

But in their 3-1 loss, the visitors were made to pay for giving up goals at crucial junctures and finding it difficult to handle Arsenal’s set plays.

“It’s a team that tests you in every aspect of the game, and we knew we were going up against one of the best teams in England,” Kompany stated.

They test you when you have the ball, they test you when they have the ball, and obviously, they test you from set plays as well, meaning that they test you in all aspects of the game.

We must examine this game to determine whether we can have moments and momentum. Based on my observations, most of the phases saw us able to have both.

“I think we played a very mature and disciplined game, but there is definitely the disappointment in the goals’ timing and the way we gave up the second one.

“I believe it’s something that will make us even sharper, even more aware of the threat of the level of this league, even against a top side.”

As Kompany mentioned, Arsenal’s three goals came from corners, which posed a constant threat to the home team throughout the day.

“It’s not a coincidence, I have to give credit to Arsenal as well,” Kompany continued.

Because they play near your box and have good possession, these teams also produce dangerous set plays and set pieces.

“They are one of the best teams in the league at what they do, so you have to deal with them.” Remember, they are, in my opinion, the finest team when it comes to set plays.

“They never stop trying you. Set plays are used if it’s not through the middle or through shots that are on target.

“The best will put you to the test in every manner; for us, it serves as a reminder to remain alert and focused on everything.”

Burnley’s overall performance in the general play was considerably better, despite their shortcomings in handling those set plays. They maintained composure and remained organized against a formidable team.

But when Arsenal was relegated to 10 men with seven minutes remaining, Kompany was angry that the Clarets weren’t still in the match.

“These kinds of games, you need a little bit of luck and something to go your way, which is unfortunate because I thought that was the last-ten-minute red card moment,” the man remarked.

When things are tied or you’re down 2-1, sometimes that’s sufficient. The game has a bit more to it all of a sudden.

You must strive for perfection in all that you do. We were flawless in the majority of areas, but set plays undoubtedly play a major role, and today they cost us against a very strong team.
