Many social media users expressed their displeasure with Journey’s interpretation of the song’s lyrics and did not hold back. One fan commented, “Journey changing the lyrics from South Detroit to San Francisco was weak as hell.” Another person said, “Journey really tried to change the lyrics to San Francisco instead of South Detroit.”
Additionally, some Lions fans think the group cursed their team’s chances of winning the Super Bowl. Their chances of making it to the big game had looked very promising. But after falling to the 49ers 34–31, they were eliminated from the possibility of playing in the fourth quarter. Dan Campbell, the coach, expressed his disappointment to USA TODAY, saying, “You feel like you got your heart ripped out.”
