The eight Stoke City players leaving on free agency in the upcoming season

A weak start to the new Championship season has hurt Stoke City.

After placing 16th in the standings the previous season, Alex Neil’s team will be hoping to close the gap to the top teams in the league this year.

Neil assembled a team he believes is capable of competing for promotion to the Premier League during a busy transfer offseason.

Whose contract at Stoke City is up?
However, a number of players could still leave as unrestricted free agents in the summer of 2024.

Here, we take a look at the Potters players whose contracts are up in 2019…

Wesley Moraes

Moraes has been at Stoke since signing a one-year deal with the team in the summer of 2016.

He came from Aston Villa, where he spent four years at Villa Park but failed to make much of an impact.

Given the Brazilian’s promising start at Stoke, a decision on his future must be taken quickly.

Tyrese Campbell

Campbell, one of the few academy graduates playing in the first team squad, has been a significant player for Stoke in recent seasons.

The forward’s contract has no provision for triggering a 12-month extension, and it expires this summer.

Whether the 23-year-old stays with the Potters after this summer is still up in the air.

Jordan Thompson

The Northern Irishman, who joined Stoke from Blackpool in 2020, is in his fifth season with the team.

The 26-year-old is a crucial member of Neil’s team, but if no deal is struck before the summer, they run the possibility of losing him for free.

Enda Stevens

Stevens joined the team last summer after leaving Sheffield United, and he is currently in his debut season.

The Irishman, who played for the Blades in the Premier League, provides a wealth of knowledge to the locker room.

If no agreement is reached before the season’s finish, the 33-year-old might only be with the team for one season.

Dwight Gayle

Gayle joined the team in the summer of 2022, but had a lackluster debut season.

The striker has slipped down Neil’s team’s hierarchy, and if a contract extension is not completed, he might not have a club to call home until 2024.

Jack Bonham

At Stoke, Bonham, 30, is well down the list of potential goalkeepers and is seen as Mark Travers’ backup.

If no agreement is reached before then, the 30-year-old might leave the team in the summer.

D’Margio Wright-Phillips

Another academy graduate at Stoke with a contract that is about to expire is Wright-Phillips.

The forward has been out of the running for the first team in recent weeks, and unless he can persuade Neil to give him a chance in the team soon, he might find himself leaving Stoke in the near future.

Blondy Nna Noukeu

The 22-year-old’s contract expires in 2024, making him Neil’s third-choice goalkeeper.

Although he graduated from the Stoke academy, it is unclear whether the team plans to keep him after his current contract expires.
