The Eagles want a Bulldog as their defensive coordinator

Please accept my apologies, Sean Desai. Matt Patricia, please step aside.

The Philadelphia Eagles require the services of a new defensive coordinator. Perhaps they should return to Georgia.

Perhaps the team should bring back Glenn Schumann, the Bulldogs’ co-defensive coordinator, for a second interview. After Jonathan Gannon left to become head coach of the Arizona Cardinals last year, the Eagles interviewed several candidates, including the 33-year-old coach.

Desai was eventually named the team’s next defensive coordinator, and Patricia was hired as a senior defensive assistant. It proved to be the wrong move, as Patricia currently directs plays for a team that is fourth in the league in points allowed.

With five Georgia players on the defensive line, hiring a coach who helped the Eagles win back-to-back national titles in 2021 and 2022 seems like a no-brainer. Schumann has six national championships to his name, the first four coming in eight years at Alabama under Nick Saban. So why didn’t the Eagles hire him when the opportunity arose?

During a press conference during Georgia’s fall camp, Schumann highlighted how he stays in touch with Eagles players like cornerback Kelee Ringo during the season. When asked about his interview with Philadelphia, he claimed he was honored to be considered but provided no explanation for why he didn’t get the job.

If Schumann is serious about getting a job in the NFL, this could be the year. While the Bulldogs fell short of a third consecutive national championship, his defense came close to a shutout in the Capital One Orange Bowl, defeating Florida State 63-3.

If the Eagles want to get the most out of players like Ringo, Jalen Carter, and Nakobe Dean, this may be their final chance to sign Schumann.
