The commanders’ co-owner explains the reasons behind the “heartbreaking” defeat

Magic Johnson, a part-owner of the Washington Commanders, shared his opinions on the team’s difficult-to-accept 29-26 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

NBA legend Magic Johnson, who also owns a portion of the Washington Commanders, wasn’t happy with what he witnessed from his team on Sunday. Johnson expressed his dissatisfaction and his theory of what went wrong on social media.

Losing to the Seattle Seahawks was heartbreaking. During their last two drives, we were unable to stop Seattle with a big play on defense, Johnson said on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

Johnson is…not wrong!

The Commanders’ defense gave up points in the 29-26 loss, despite the offense mounting two comebacks in the fourth quarter to tie the game. To tie the game at 19, quarterback Sam Howell found Antonio Gibson for a 19-yard touchdown. Geno Smith of Seattle quickly moved the Seahawks down the field and found Tyler Lockett for a 5-yard touchdown.

Howell and company responded with a 10-play, 71-yard drive that saw Dyami Brown catch a 35-yard touchdown pass. Everyone tied at 26.

However, Washington was unable to hold on, and as time ran out, Jason Myers made a 43-yard field goal to give the Seahawks a 29-26 victory after four completions of passes by Smith.

Is it time to see the silver lining? Howell’s play in the final moments of the game must inspire the Commanders to stay in the contest. This was the second-year quarterback’s fourth career 300-yard game as he finished the day 29 for 44 for 312 yards, three touchdowns, and zero picks.

With the defeat, Washington dropped to 4-6. But there’s more good news. The Commanders host the struggling New York Giants at home the following week. An excellent opportunity to reclaim the victory column.
