Tennessee Volunteers Excluded From The Latest Predictions

According to the most recent preseason forecasts, the Tennessee Volunteers will narrowly miss the college football playoffs.

Tennessee football head coach Josh Heupel is approaching a rather comfortable season with his team. There is some hope that they will make the college football playoffs this season, but no one would be surprised if they narrowly missed that window as well. It might be difficult to get things going with a new starting quarterback, but the Volunteers appear poised to be a top-12 team this season.

However, 247 Sports does not believe Tennessee will be that this season. In fact, they predict them to narrowly miss the college football playoffs and face Iowa again in the Reliaquest Bowl. Not the most glamorous playoff destination, but as long as Tennessee remains in contention until the very end, don’t expect Volunteer supporters to run out with torches and pitchforks.

This season, 247 Sports predicts four SEC teams to make the playoffs: Georgia, Texas, Alabama, and Ole Miss.

Regardless of preseason projections, Tennessee fans should look forward to an enjoyable season. Nico Iamaleava will start at quarterback for the first time in his career outside of a bowl game, James Pearce Jr. will compete for the first overall pick on defense, and there will be many returning faces as well as some new faces on both sides of the ball.
