TE returns to Eagles practice ahead of 49ers showdown

Originally broadcast on NBC Sports Bay Area, Dallas Goedert returns to Eagles practice ahead of the 49ers game.

Dallas Goedert, a tight end for the Philadelphia Eagles, declared himself healthy and prepared to play on Sunday after training for the first time since breaking his forearm a month ago.

The sole issue is that it’s not his choice.

Goedert remarked following practice, “You know, I’ve got to talk to the doctor yet, let him know how it felt out there today, but to me, my arm feels really good and I’m really excited to be where I’m at right now.”

“Going outside to kind of test it out and see how it feels was a lot of fun.” It also feels more like a team when you can go around with the group while wearing the helmet. That was really enjoyable. Undoubtedly, I enjoy doing that more than jogging with the strength staff.

Goedert was limited on Friday and didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday. He was designated by the Eagles as doubtful for their Week 13 game against the 49ers. But it’s preferable to being outside.

He may not have a great chance of playing, but it’s still possible.

“The physician stated that it would take four to six weeks, but after hearing that, I assume it will only take two to three,” Goedert remarked. So, a few weeks ago, I was mentally prepared to play. Physicians couldn’t agree.

According to Goedert, a metal plate was permanently implanted in his arm by medical professionals. According to him, the chance of re-injury is low right now.

As far as I’m aware, there’s not much risk. All I’m concerned with is how my arm feels,” Goedert remarked. “I was able to move around and get out of the cast a week or five after the surgery. The doctor said that with the plate in place, the bone is stronger than it was before, so I don’t think there’s too big of a risk of re-injury there.” It simply means having the capacity to put up with anything.

All that is being worked on is mobility, movement, and such things. And I couldn’t be happier where I am right now.

Goedert had more impressive stats before he was injured in 2023 after having a difficult start to the season. In his last five games, he had 25 catches for 322 yards and two touchdowns.

Goedert has 38 receptions for 410 receiving yards and two touchdowns on the season. He has 286 catches for 3,407 yards and 21 touchdowns in more than five seasons. His 50 yards per game is eighth among tight ends as of 2019.

Last season, Goedert’s shoulder ailment kept him out of five games. This season, starter tight end Jack Stoll caught two catches for 17 yards while Goedert missed two games.

“I consider its positive aspects,” Goedert remarked. “I expect to miss no more than two or three games this year, like I missed five last year. You also notice everyone else who is injured or dealing with similar issues for a whole year.

“It’s difficult not being there, but I’m also grateful that I can skip a few games and return in time for the crucial games in November and December.”

Barring an injury, Goedert is expected to play in the 49ers game on Sunday night and then return a week later for the Cowboys rematch in North Texas.

Taking everything into account, missing three games due to a fractured arm isn’t that horrible. It could be far worse.

Indeed, Goedert admitted, “it was kind of a scary thing.” “You worry when you have a fractured bone. .. However, since they installed the plate, everything has been going incredibly well. My power has been regaining. I’m incredibly thrilled since my pain level has been really low.
