Packers 7th Round Mock Nets Safety

A new seven-round mock draft addresses gaps in the Green Bay Packers’ secondary.

Green Bay, Wisconsin – In a seven-round mock draft for Pro Football Network, the Green Bay Packers moved back four positions to take Minnesota safety Tyler Nubin with the 29th overall choice in the first round.

As part of Ian Cummings’ hypothetical deal, the Packers acquired third- and fourth-round draft picks in 2025.

Nubin is a versatile safety with demonstrated playmaking ability.

Nubin had never played safety before replacing Antoine Winfield at Minnesota in 2020. He is “incredibly violent,” according to Minnesota Gophers coach P.J. Fleck.

If the Packers chose Nubin, he would want No. 27.

The second-round picks were used on Rutgers cornerback Max Melton and Florida State running back Trey Benson, whom Cummings described as “an explosive, relentless” runner with “crisp” receiving skills.

Melton is the younger brother of Packers’ WR Bo Melton. With the same athleticism, he recorded eight interceptions and 21 passes defensed in his final three seasons.

“I believe my brother was the best Big Ten receiver in the conference, and I was just like, ‘OK, I want to be the best, I gotta go against the best,” Max Melton said in an interview with 247 Sports. “Every one-on-one when we went team, I was trying to go against my brother.”

The third-round picks went to Maryland offensive tackle Delmar Glaze, a developmental talent who has to improve his run blocking, and North Carolina linebacker Cedric Grey.

Gray, who would fill the void in the lineup with the conversion to a 4-3 scheme, recorded 141 tackles, including 12 for losses, as a junior and 121 tackles, including five sacks and 11 for losses as a senior. He forced five fumbles and intercepted five passes over his final three seasons.

Day 3 picks included an edge defender/4-3 defensive end, a slot/safety, two offensive linemen, a receiver, a defensive tackle, and another safety.

The first of those defensive backs is Evan Williams of Oregon, who played 290 snaps in the box, 271 snaps at free safety, and 165 snaps in the slot during his one season there in 2023. He spent his first four years at Fresno State, finishing with 90 tackles and three interceptions in 2021.

Williams received a late invitation to the Senior Bowl and was selected the best “defensive specialist” by the opposing running backs and receivers.

“Show I have the capability to make plays against elite competition,” Williams remarked at the time. “Felt like I’ve done that a lot this year and also my willingness to learn and be able to pick things up on the fly.”
