Strong Opinions About Browns QB Situation Following Rams Game

Deshaun Watson’s signing was meant to address the quarterback positional issues facing the Cleveland Browns.

Watson joined the team on a big contract—the largest guaranteed agreement in league history.

However, Watson’s availability has not been optimal because of his suspension from the previous year and his injuries this year.

The Browns have started four quarterbacks as a result, moving to a different position at the position.

Joe Flacco, Joe Watson, P.J. Walker, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson have all played for the Browns.

Different levels of success have been experienced by each of these players.

In a recent radio segment from ESPN Cleveland (via ESPN Cleveland on Twitter), Tony Rizzo made it very clear that Flacco is his choice, despite the fact that Browns fans are divided about who they would like to start going forward.

Going forward, Rizzo remarked, “I don’t understand how you couldn’t play Flacco.”

Based solely on the numbers, Flacco appears to be the best option.

Flacco completed the game with 254 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception for the Browns against the Los Angeles Rams.

For a player who hadn’t played in the NFL since the 2022 season finale against the New York Jets, not too bad.

In contrast, Thompson Robinson only managed 134 yards and a touchdown passing against the Denver Broncos the previous week.

Flacco should have an advantage over the competition going forward because he has the professional experience necessary to lead the Browns.

If Flacco stays healthy, Rizzo thinks the team will have an easy decision to make for the remainder of the season.

It remains to be seen what course of action the organization takes.
