Striker linked with Ipswich poised to claim his contract option

Championship transfer rumors from around the web as Sunderland and its league rivals prepare for the upcoming season.

Blackburn are apparently prepared to activate a one-year contract extension for Sam Gallagher in response to interest from elsewhere.

Ipswich were supposed to be interested in the 28-year-old in January, before signing Kieffer Moore on loan from Bournemouth, while Sunderland and Birmingham were also rumoured to be keen.

Gallagher missed a significant portion of this season due to injury, scoring only three goals in 24 league games; nonetheless, according to TeamTalk, Blackburn have exercised the option to extend the striker’s contract by another year. Talks are also thought to be ongoing to extend the striker’s contract beyond 2025.

Sunderland will want to acquire at least one new striker this summer, after failing to sign another forward in January. The Black Cats recruited four young forwards last summer and will need to decide whether to loan out players like Hemir Semedo and Eliezer Mayenda next season.
