Birmingham City take on Rotherham United on Saturday, and Steve Evans has had his view on the Blues’ summer acquisitions.

Steve Evans, the manager of Rotherham United, believes Birmingham City are the ‘Galacticos of League One’ following their summer transfer window spending. Blues travel to the New York Stadium on Saturday (3pm) looking to extend their unbeaten run and maintain their lead at the top of the division, alongside Wrexham, whom they defeated on Monday night.

Rotherham were relegated from the Championship last season, and despite their third-tier pedigree – they’ve been promoted four times in the last ten years and three times since 2018 – they’ve started this season slowly under Evans; their only win came against the other relegated side, Huddersfield Town, at the end of August.

As Blues prepare to visit South Yorkshire, Evans has praised the club’s recruitment efforts and described Blues as ‘massive’. He expects Blues to come close to reaching 100 points in the league this season.

“I really mean it when I say Birmingham City are the Galacticos of League One,” Evans told the Yorkshire Post. “They spent £20 million in the transfer window and are paying enormous wages. There has been significant investment. I applaud that.

“For their manager, Chris Davies, three Christmases have arrived at once. They’re a massive club. Their team is the first I’ve seen in League One that has made me think, ‘This may be 100 points this season,’ but we don’t want any from the Millers.”
