Steelers Need Playoff Victories for LB Return

The Pittsburgh Steelers must “win a few” games in order to reclaim their star linebacker.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ standout outside linebacker is unlikely to be available in the Wild Card game against the Buffalo Bills. However, a victory in Orchard Park might pave the way for T.J. Watt to return in the Divisional round of the AFC Championship.

Watt’s “best case” scenario for a return, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, is two weeks. Watt suffered a grade 2 MCL sprain against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 18, and Rapoport claims that the Steelers will need to “win a few” in order for Watt to return.

According to Rapoport, Watt will also be wearing a brace after his comeback.

The Steelers’ starting outside linebackers will be Alex Highsmith and Markus Golden/Nick Herbig in the Wild Card round versus Buffalo. Watt’s availability this week has not been verified by the team, but his brother, J.J., has stated that he will require a “few weeks” of rest.

This season, the Defensive Player of the Year candidate led the league with 19 sacks and also had 19 tackles for loss, an interception, eight pass deflections, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and a score.
