Star Shares “Knowledge Acquired” by Seahawks Since Week 1

At SoFi Stadium on Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams will square off for the second time this season.

In the season opener at Lumen Field, the Rams upset the Seahawks by winning 30–13. Coach Sean McVay’s squad scored 23 points in a row in the second half.

Geno Smith and company are still thinking back on Seattle’s humiliation from Week 1, but he also discussed how the team has improved since then.

“All of the experience we’ve gained throughout the season,” Smith remarked. “A few younger guys who were participating in their first game are now playing in a few more. They comprehend the situation more clearly. A great deal of experience has been gained by all of the guys who stepped in and played, including Jason Peters, Jake Curry, Stone Forsythe, and many others. We have played a lot of guys up front. All in all, we’re still learning and developing; we have a long season ahead of us. I believe that we have simply improved throughout the season.

The Rams defense, led by standout defensive tackle Aaron Donald, held the Seahawks offense scoreless in the second half of the first game despite giving up 13 first downs, two third down conversions, and only 180 total yards.

Though Donald hasn’t exactly been the game-changing player we all know him to be this season with 5.5 sacks in his nine games, the Rams defense still put a lot of pressure on the much-discussed Seattle offense. Smith starts his game planning at number 99 when it comes to going up against Raheem Morris’ defense.

“We’ll start at number 99,” Smith stated. “Where is he always located? One of the greatest players of all time at his position, a Hall of Famer, and a current high performer. Just being aware of his location, followed by all of their blitz packages. They always have a few different angles of defense for the schematic stuff that they excel at. Being able to make modifications on the sidelines or during halftime, and then simply playing our game.”

Since that Week 1 game, both teams have taken different paths, so the Seahawks must continue to win if they want to stay up with the San Francisco 49ers in the division.

Will the Seahawks be able to learn from their mistakes and perform better at SoFi Stadium after the Week 1 disaster?

That’s the hope for Smith and the offense.
