The Oklahoma Sooners are likely to be missing top wide receiver Nic Anderson in their second game of the 2024 season.

According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports and CBS Sports, Anderson will miss tonight’s game against the Houston Cougars.

Anderson caught 38 catches for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023 and was slated to lead the Sooners in 2024. Brent Venables addressed Anderson’s injury earlier this week, saying he will return “sooner rather than later,” although he has yet to make his 2024 appearance.

Brenen Thompson will start on the outside for the second time in a row, replacing Anderson. He had four catches for 15 yards last week, as Oklahoma mainly employed him in short passing situations. The speedster from Texas can get behind the defense quickly. The Sooners appear to be opening things up more in the passing game this week, but with a retooled offensive line, who knows how much they’ll try to put Jackson Arnold in harm’s way.

J.J. Hester replaces Jalil Farooq, who was out for six to eight weeks with a broken foot.
