Oklahoma has added Sam Landry, a former University of Louisiana pitcher, to its final remaining softball roster position for next season.

The right-handed pitcher is the fifth player added from the transfer portal by Sooners head coach Patty Gasso since the team won its fourth consecutive national championship last month.

Sooner supporters hoped that the final roster place would go to another transfer pitching candidate, NiJaree Canady, who was not only the best pitcher available in the portal, but also the top pitcher in collegiate softball this season and the 2024 National Player of the Year. That is still possible, but Oklahoma will need to come up with some clever roster management to make it happen.

Landry was named to the All-Sun Belt First Team this season and will have one more year of eligibility. She had a 24-10 record this season, with a 2.09 earned run average, 165 strikeouts, and 65 walks in nearly 200 innings. Her career record is 63-19, with a 2.12 ERA.

The former Ragin’ Cajun joins transfer portal newcomers Ailana Agbayani, an infielder from BYU; outfielder Abby Dayton from Utah; catcher Isabela Emerling from North Carolina; and pitcher Isabella Smith from Campbell as new team members for the upcoming season.

Oklahoma’s pitching staff for 2025 comprises transfers Landry and Smith, who will join returning starter Kierston Deal, former Wisconsin transfer Paytn Monticelli, and incoming freshman Audrey Lowry, one of the greatest pitching prospects in the 2024 class nationally.
