Every day in practice, BYU linemen Connor Pay and Tyler Batty are at each other’s throats, but when they leave the field, it’s all love.

On Wednesday, Pay and Batty arrived at the KSL Sports Zone after attending the Big 12 Media Days in Las Vegas.

Brothers Off The Field, Competitors On The Field

Pay and Batty have both attended BYU since 2020.

They spend a lot of time together, but much of it is spent arguing on the practice field.

“It’s been four years but we are (friends) now,” remarked Pay. “It wasn’t always that way.”

Jokes aside, Batty discussed the team’s competitive nature and how trash language on the field has no effect off the field.

Younger players do not always catch on straight away, and even experienced players can get carried away at times. However, there is still confidence on game day that all anger will be aimed toward the opponent.

“We have a great team culture,” Batty stated. “On the field, you try to kill each other for two hours straight. It ends the instant you walk off. You’re teammates, and you look out for one another.

Offensive Line Changes May Lead To Success

With some major names leaving and a new offensive line coach, Pay believed his time as a Cougar was coming to an end.

After testing the waters, Pay was pleasantly surprised by what he saw and decided to run it again in Provo.

“I felt that with a less talented (offensive) line than we’ve had in the past, we probably performed better in spring ball than years past,” Pay told ESPN. “That makes me really hopeful about the season. The offensive line is incredibly complicated. You must master things that your body is not designed to do.”

About 2024 Big 12 Media Days

For the first time, the Big 12 is making its way to Las Vegas, Nevada.

The two-day event will take place at Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders, on Tuesday, July 9 and Wednesday, July 10.

The BYU Cougars will attend their second Big 12 Media Day since joining the conference in 2023. Last year’s Media Days were hosted at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Utah will be one of four newcomers to the Big 12 in 2024. The Utes will be familiar with Allegiant Stadium, having visited the 2023 Pac-12 Media Day at Resorts World in Las Vegas.
