Sherrone Moore establishes and hires new positions for the Michigan football staff

Sherrone Moore is continuing to stamp his own mark on the Michigan football program, and this weekend he announced the creation of a new job.

Sherrone Moore has done an excellent job of assembling a coaching staff for Michigan football, especially after watching so many coaches leave for the NFL.

With the current state of the college game, the NFL is a far simpler job. You don’t have to recruit, worry about NIL, or lose your best players each year. Although the NFL allows for free agency, there are contracts in place. Everyone in college football is currently signed for one year.

The Michigan football coaching staff appears to be set with the signing of Lamar Morgan. However, formal news on Mike Hart is still pending.

However, off-field positions are becoming increasingly essential in college football. On Saturday, a new hire for Michigan football was announced: Zach Higginbotham will join the Wolverines as Director of Sport Science.

He stated he would play a hybrid role for the Wolverines. Higginbotham was previously the Applied Sciences and Recruitment Coordinator at Cal.

I’ll be honest: I know very little about sports science. But I am aware that player development was a critical component of the Wolverines’ success over the last three seasons. Ben Herbert was a big part of it.

His understudy, Justin Tress, has taken over as director of strength and conditioning. This appointment adds a fresh wrinkle to the program, making it more player-friendly, comparable to Alabama.

More and more teams are bringing this type of person into their programs, and it’s encouraging to see Sherrone leading Michigan into the 21st century in terms of off-field personnel for recruiting and other purposes.
