Sean Murphy homered in first rehab start
|The Braves offense has been largely dormant for over a month, and yesterday’s 0-14 performance with runners in scoring position nicely summarizes the team’s current woes.
They could use a boost, and one may arrive shortly.
Last night, All-Star catcher Sean Murphy started his rehab assignment with the Gwinnett Stripers, and in his first at-bat, he launched a nearly 450-foot moonshot to dead center field.

Sean Murphy also threw out a would-be base stealer in the third inning.

The expectation was that Sean Murphy would catch five innings. He went on to finish seven, and after the game, he claimed it felt as good as it could for his first game back.
“I feel great. About as good as you could hope for, I think. Bat speed was there, I did everything behind the plate I wanted to do. It was good.”

Originally, I believed the Braves would ease Sean Murphy back into things. However, given that he caught seven innings last night and looked as brilliant as he did, along with the Braves’ difficulties, this process could be accelerated. If there are no hiccups, Murphy should arrive in Atlanta soon, which will be a tremendous help for both the offense and the pitching staff.
