Nottingham Forest have signed Aston Villa left-back Alex Moreno on loan for the remainder of the season, with the option of a permanent deal.

The Spaniard, 31, had fallen behind new signings Ian Maatsen and Lucas Digne in the Villa Park pecking order.

Moreno joined Villa from La Liga side Real Betis in January 2023 for £13.2 million, being Unai Emery’s first signing after previously being linked with Forest.

He appeared in 21 Premier League games last season, as Villa finished fourth and qualified for the Champions League.

Nottingham Forest’s chief football officer, Ross Wilson, said: “Alex is a player we’ve had a long-standing interest in, so we’re all delighted to see him join us.

“He has amassed significant experience in La Liga and the Premier League, and he brings all of that quality and experience to our group now.”

Meanwhile, defender Joe Worrall appears ready to leave Forest, with Championship club Burnley in advanced talks to sign the 27-year-old.
