Seahawks v 49ers: A pair prepared for an angry Seattle crowd

A significant obstacle for San Francisco as the 49ers get set for their Thanksgiving game against the Seattle Seahawks is the notoriously unfriendly atmosphere that awaits them at Lumen Field.

In front of a boisterous crowd in Seattle, Brock Purdy made his first road start in the NFL. The 49ers upset the Seahawks 21-13 to win the 2022 NFC West, and the young quarterback showed incredible poise.

Purdy described how important it is that every little detail be paid attention to by a 49ers squad playing at a stadium that has historically been a horror for San Francisco.

“It’s a great environment, hostile environment, and so it’s just more about being on top of your details, the pre-snap operation, speaking clearly in the huddle, breaking the huddle on time, making sure we’re all on the right page with the snap points and all that stuff,” Purdy told reporters prior to the game on Thursday. Thus, it’s quite important, particularly in that type of setting. There are many simple ways to become sidetracked, so it goes without saying that the crowd will make every effort to divert us. It’s one of those games where every play counts, so yeah. Everyone needs to be mindful of the little things because if they aren’t, you will make mistakes and it won’t seem good.”

Purdy’s prior experience playing at Lumen Field was highlighted by coach Kyle Shanahan, who emphasized the value of firsthand knowledge in gauging the loudness of the venue on game days.

It’s really worth it. Although he has visited other loud locations, Shanahan clarified that Seattle is consistently the loudest, if not the loudest overall. “You can always warn people about the noise level, but they won’t understand until they visit the location, and he has been there, so he is aware of the situation.” I don’t need to tell him how important it is. He will be abusing our guys for the next two days.”

The San Francisco visit this year and this year’s meeting in Seattle are very similar in that they are both Thursday night games with significant NFC West title implications.

The 49ers quarterback Purdy was 17 of 26 for 217 yards and two touchdowns in his lone start in Seattle. He also handled the ball well with no turnovers.

If San Francisco wins on Thursday night, it will be the first time they have ever won back-to-back games in Seattle since the Seahawks switched to the NFC West in 2002. It would also be the first time they have ever done so in two different seasons.
