Seattle Seahawks Rookie Jerrick Reed II OUT for Season

ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced on Tuesday that rookie safety Jerrick Reed II of the Seattle Seahawks will miss the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL sustained in Sunday’s 17-16 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Up until Week 11, Reed, a New Mexico native selected in the sixth round by the Seahawks this past April, ranked third in the NFL in special teams tackles. In all, he added 11 defensive tackles. On September 24, in the 37-27 victory over the Carolina Panthers, he recorded a career-high three total tackles on defense.

Coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider praised Reed’s energy and called him “fun to watch” when Seattle selected him in the draft.

“I enjoy seeing him. He’s everywhere,” Carroll remarked. “He has a great ability to take risks, play quickly and aggressively, and be willing to make plays. Thus, the same topic appears once more. We felt that this man was really versatile, extremely aggressive, and would also be a great addition to the special teams. We are now going to be in a highly competitive position.”

Reed will be an important member of a talented secondary that already features players like veteran Quandre Diggs, Pro Bowl cornerback Riq Woolen, and fellow rookie Devon Witherspoon if he can continue to play well on special teams and develop as a defensive player.

The Seahawks (6-4) welcome the San Francisco 49ers (7-3) for a Thanksgiving game on Thursday, hoping to recover from their heartbreaking loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
