Seahawks Encouraged to Trade for Ex-Super Bowl MVP QB

Regarding the Seattle Seahawks’ future plans at quarterback, there are still a lot of rumors circulating.

Geno Smith has a contract that runs through the 2025 campaign. However, the Seahawks have an out this offseason as part of his deal.

In 2024, backup Drew Lock will become a free agent, casting doubt on his future in Seattle as well. As a precautionary measure, Matt Holder of Bleacher Report thinks the team should bring veteran quarterback Nick Foles into the lineup. Although Foles is not a long-term fix, Smith has been battling a tricep ailment.

Holder stated in an article titled “NFL Team Needs: Prioritizing Every Roster’s Biggest Weaknesses Entering Week 13” on November 27, 2023, “While Geno Smith was healthy enough to play on Thanksgiving, two Sundays ago proved that Drew Lock isn’t a capable backup quarterback.” By adding Foles, the Seahawks would have another option in case Smith is hurt again or has a setback. It also doesn’t hurt that Foles was a QB2 who had already won a Super Bowl.

Geno Smith: ‘I’ve Been Probably Holding the Ball a Little Bit Too Long’

This offseason, Seattle might be in the market for a few quarterbacks. Smith’s performance over the past two months has raised doubts about whether the seasoned player is the position’s long-term answer. An alteration Smith would like to see is a quicker release of the ball.

Smith clarified at a news conference on November 27: “As you said, just processing and going through reads and getting the ball out to the designed guy within rhythm of the play in the offense.” “And coach is true, I think I’ve been trying to see guys open by holding the ball a little too long. Rather than throwing them open as is my usual practice.

Just giving the fellas your trust once more. Putting my faith in myself, having faith in our abilities, and just getting the ball out while being fairly accurate with my throws so the guys, who are excellent players, can make fantastic plays and catches.

Seahawks Rumors: Should Seattle Sign Veteran Quarterback Nick Foles?

When Carson Wentz injured late in the 2017 season, Foles was the Eagles’ backup quarterback and became well-known. The seasoned player not only won the MVP award for the game but also guided Philadelphia to a Super Bowl triumph over the Patriots.

Since then, Foles has been with the Colts, Bears, and Jaguars. The quarterback was cut this past offseason after making his final appearance for Indianapolis in 2022.

The veteran quarterback had his greatest season with the Eagles in 2013, when he completed 64% of his passes in 13 games and threw for 2,891 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Foles was nominated to the Pro Bowl for his play.

It makes sense to question if, at this stage of his career, Foles is a better option than Lock. With 58 career starts, Foles is a reliable backup choice in the event that Smith’s ailment worsens. It is impractical to expect Foles, who signed this late in the season, to have much success with Seattle’s offense.

Smith still has a chance to lead Seattle into the playoffs and salvage his season. With games remaining against the Cowboys, 49ers, Eagles, and Steelers to finish the season, it won’t be simple.
