Seahawks Could Withdraw From The Trade Of A QB
The NFC playoff race has the Seattle Seahawks right in the thick of things.
However, the team’s chances of qualifying for the postseason have diminished recently due to a three-game losing streak.
Things are definitely not looking good in Seattle with a tough schedule ahead of them, as the Seahawks travel to play the San Francisco 49ers on the road in Week 14 and then host the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15. especially in light of how strong some of the other teams, like the Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers, are in the race for a postseason spot.
The success of the 2023 season for the Seahawks can be attributed, at least in part, to Geno Smith’s play, according to some fans and analysts. He hasn’t been performing to the same caliber as he did in 2022, when he stunned the football community by starting for the first time since joining the New York Jets in his rookie season.
The Seahawks may try to make changes at quarterback during the offseason. Even though Smith was signed to a three-year contract during the offseason, it was really only a one-year contract because the last two years of the agreement have no guaranteed money.
Who might Seattle try to sign on as a substitute? They could look into alternatives across the league if they decide against going with Drew Lock, who is currently the backup. One player that NFL insider Matt Lombardo thinks would be a good fit is Chicago Bears player Justin Fields.
As Lombardo notes, “the Seahawks, like Tampa Bay, might be a Fields away from legitimately challenging the San Francisco 49ers for NFC West supremacy.” “With Fields, the Seahawks could go back in time and add a quarterback that the young offensive playmakers can develop into and succeed with for a very long time.”
The Bears could have the opportunity to sign a top-ranked quarterback prospect for the second consecutive season, which puts them in an intriguing situation. They gave the Carolina Panthers their top pick in exchange for a package that included their first-round pick in 2024 last year.
The Panthers, who are 1-11, are aiming for the top pick, which will be communicated to the Bears. Fields will be moving if they wish to start the quarterback clock on their own. Lombardo thinks the Seahawks are a good choice in that situation.
Although Fields, who is in his third season in the NFL, has improved somewhat this season, the Bears haven’t quite made the progress that many had anticipated. It would be hard to argue against them selling Fields or keeping him, so no one would blame them for doing so.
The Seahawks would be a suitor if they choose to go the trade route. Fields could flourish under a coaching staff that assisted Russell Wilson in becoming a Hall of Famer and would raise the offense’s potential in the long run.
