Seahawks change their roster before their matchup with the 49ers

In their secondary backfield, the Seattle Seahawks are adding a crucial component ahead of the formidable San Francisco 49ers offense test.

Hours before the Thanksgiving night game on prime time television, Seattle announced that defensive back Coby Bryant had been activated from injured reserve. Star rookie special team player Jerrick Reed II, who is headed to injured reserve due to an ACL tear, is replaced by him.

Bryant’s toe ailment kept him out of the game since Week 2. The Seahawks moved the starting slot cornerback from his rookie season last year to safety during training camp. With his versatility, the defense in Seattle may be able to slow down the San Francisco offense, which leads the NFL in both DVOA and Expected Points Added per play.

Brett Rypien, the quarterback for the Seahawks, has also been promoted from the practice squad.

Rypien will provide extra insurance for Geno Smith, who is expected to start against the formidable 49ers defense after sustaining a seriously bruised tricep during the Seahawks’ loss to the Rams on Sunday.

Smith left the Rams game and came back to try to propel the team to victory. Backup Drew Lock only completed two of his six throws for three yards and an interception while he was out.

The Seahawks (6-4) trail the 49ers (7-3) by a game in the battle for the NFC West title.
