Sam Morsy reacted on ‘super’ comeback win against Southampton

Ipswich Town skipper Sam Morsy called his team’s last-gasp 3-2 comeback triumph over Sky Bet Championship promotion rivals Southampton as ‘a little bit unique’ and explained how playing at Portman Road has given them a sense of invincibility when trailing.

The Blues completed the perfect Easter for their fans with substitute Jeremy Sarmiento’s 97th-minute victory, bringing them to six points from six.

Kieran McKenna’s side finished Monday back on top of the table, after Leicester City overtook them with a 3-1 victory over Norwich City in the midday kick-off, leaving Leeds United trailing by a point after their late game against Hull City also finished 3-1 at home.

At Portman Road, Egyptian international Morsy delivered the chipped pass for Leif Davis to send them ahead with a spectacular angled drive in the 13th minute, but Che Adams pushed home for a quick response before Adam Armstrong made it 2-1 at halftime.

However, Town’s substitutes came to the fore once more in the second half, with Nathan Broadhead equalising in the 68th minute from a Jack Taylor ball before Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Sarmiento scored the thrilling winner.

The latest in a number of memorable comebacks at Portman Road, where they have only lost once in the league this season, Morsy admitted this one certainly stood out for the players.
