Rivals star sends warning message to Ipswich and Leeds

Leicester City bounced back from successive defeats at Millwall and Plymouth to win 2-1 at home against West Bromwich Albion this afternoon, returning to the top of the Championship.

The style of those defeats had many Foxes fans debating what would have been unthinkable just a few weeks ago: that their team may blow not only their title ambitions, but also automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

However, goals from Wilfred Ndidi and Jamie Vardy survived a strong challenge by the play-off-chasing Baggies, and two victory in City’s remaining three games will ensure their return to the top flight at the first attempt.

Leicester’s success was largely due to the grit of central midfielder Hamza Choudhury, a 26-year-old local who made three goal-line clearances to keep the points at the King Power Stadium.

Following the game, the Sky man of the match praised Leicester’s drive to finish the job and a shift in mindset that will serve as a warning to championship contenders Leeds United and Ipswich Town as the struggle for Championship supremacy heats up.

He told Sky Sports: “We’ve had a tough few months since the turn of the year, but we understand what it means to be a team. Everyone likes each other in there. And now we’re quite near. We want to accomplish it so much – for ourselves, our families, and the fans.

“And you know, to get over the line in a game like this, it shows that we’re not just a footballing side and that we can dig deep and hang in there when we need to.”

West Brom manager Carlos Corberan will be perplexed as to how his team squandered so many scoring opportunities, and a second consecutive defeat means a play-off spot is far from guaranteed. They did, however, strike the net 14 minutes later through a Jed Wallace effort, but were unable to force an equaliser.

Enzo Maresca’s team might go up on Tuesday if they defeat Southampton at the King Power Stadium.

Choudhury added: “You know, we’ve been in that situation a few times this year, where we’ve been trying to hang on – and we conceded two late goals to Ipswich.” The lads have talked about it.

“We need more, you understand. Teams who win the league have something extra in the tank; they can dig deep without losing focus. And I believe we have demonstrated that we have it, and now we must carry it forward. “We have three big games left.”
