Richard Keys sends Wayne Rooney a warning regarding the Birmingham City position

Richard Keys expressed surprise at Birmingham City’s decision to fire John Eustace and cautioned Wayne Rooney about the challenges he would encounter if he accepts the position.

Despite the Blues’ promising start under the former Queens Park Rangers assistant, Birmingham City’s new owners abruptly fired their manager on Monday.

Blues are presently holding down a playoff position in sixth place in the Championship table.

Rooney, a former manager of Derby County, is the front-runner for the position, however a formal announcement of the hire has not yet been made.

The club’s choice has left Keys perplexed, and he forewarned Rooney of the challenges he may encounter in winning over the crowd, which still favors Eustace.

Keys posted on his blog, “I’ve just taken a look at the Championship table.”

When I looked at it Saturday night, I had to be positive that I had seen Birmingham in sixth. Indeed, sixth.

“And their manager was recently fired. Wow.

John Eustace did an outstanding job at St. Andrews, so I’m confident he won’t have any trouble finding employment.

The new manager, however, may find it difficult to win over the supporters of Eustace, who clearly appreciate his efforts in cleaning up the mess and restoring their respect.

Wayne, good luck. You will require it.

After failing to lead DC United to the playoffs, Rooney just left the MLS team.
