Report: Premier League clubs eyeing Birmingham City’s 26-goal player

Birmingham City U16s standout Tobey Ugorji is attracting interest from Premier League and Ligue 1 clubs, according to Football Insider.

Birmingham City has one of the country’s best academies. The Blues have had a number of top players emerge through their ranks, either into first-team football at St. Andrew’s or into higher-level youth setups.

U16s striker Ugorji appears to have caught the eye this season, and his performance in the Championship club’s academy ranks has not gone unnoticed.

According to Football Insider, Ugorji is on the radar of some big clubs after scoring 26 goals and assisting 15 times in 28 appearances this season. Teams in the Premier League and France’s Ligue 1 are keeping an eye on the Birmingham City player, who is eligible for both England and Nigeria.

He has been with the Blues since 2016 and is regarded as one of the club’s best attacking players.

Another Blues prospect

Ugorji appears to be on the right track to a great career with Birmingham City, yet his performances at U16 level may result in a promotion before a breakthrough at St. Andrew’s. Nonetheless, he appears to be another bright player in the club’s roster.

A lot of academy graduates are currently in senior positions. Jordan James, George Hall, and Alfie Chang are all regular midfielders, while Romelle Donovan is an up-and-coming player.

Headline names like Jude and Jobe Bellingham have taken their talents elsewhere, with the former going on to become one of the world’s best players with Real Madrid after playing for Borussia Dortmund.

If interest rates rise, Ugorji may have to make a decision about his future. Birmingham City has a clear pathway to professional football, but if a great club comes knocking, moving up the leagues to another academy could be the best option for his development.
