Report: Alabama running back Roydell Williams has entered the transfer portal

According to various sources, Alabama football running back Roydell Williams has entered the transfer portal.

In 2023, the Hueytown native was Alabama’s second-leading runner (560 yards), trailing only Jase McClellan and surpassing Jalen Milroe. As a senior, Williams had six touchdowns and over 600 yards of offense.Williams’ resignation was initially reported by On3.

Williams will be eligible for one more year. In the Rose Bowl, he had one carry against Michigan but was on the field for the game’s last play. Williams was suffering with an ankle issue, according to Nick Saban on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday.

Williams finished his UA career with 234 yards on the ground and 21 receptions for 13 touchdowns. He saved his best for last, setting single-season records for rushing yards (560) and touchdowns (five).

Williams was a top-100 prospect after a standout high school career with the Golden Gophers, and he picked Alabama as a four-star recruit. His first touchdown occurred in a 60-point thumping of Kentucky in Bryant-Denny Stadium in 2020. Williams continued to gain special teams snaps and, eventually, touches.

Williams had 284 yards on 48 carries as a sophomore before tearing his ACL against New Mexico State. In 2022, he had the third most carries on the team and returned for 250 yards and four touchdowns. Alabama’s runners averaged 172.6 yards per game this season, led by McClellan.

Alabama may potentially return McClellan (919 running yards), who has until January 15 to declare for the NFL Draft. Barring unforeseen circumstances, UA should also have promising freshmen Jam Miller (4.9 yards per carry on 41 attempts) and Justice Haynes returning to bolster the rushing game.

Following the conclusion of the Crimson Tide’s season, Nick Saban has predicted a frenzy of roster movement, much of it predictable. Several talents, like Dallas Turner, JC Latham, and Kool-Aid McKinstry, have turned pro. Malik Benson and Miles Kitselman, both offensive weapons, have entered the gateway.
