Reggie Wayne Reacts To Vontae Davis’ Death

On Monday, the Indianapolis Colts and the NFL received devastating news: former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis, 35, was discovered dead in Florida.

Davis played a decade in the NFL and had a good career with the Miami Dolphins, Colts, and Buffalo Bills, earning two Pro Bowl berths.

Davis’ abrupt and unexpected death has elicited reactions from several of his former teammates on social media, including retired wide receiver and Colts great Reggie Wayne, who conveyed his sorrow for his friend.

“Sad day. We used to battle every day in practice. Sometimes it resulted in a lot of squabbling and almost fights. We made each other better. It was a joy wearing the horseshoe with you, homie. Rest comfortable, ‘Champ.’ “Praying for your family and loved ones,” he tweeted.

With Wayne and Davis going head-to-head in practice every day throughout the NFL season, it’s no wonder that they’d become friends and seek to improve each other’s football skills, which they certainly did during their time together in Indianapolis.

Along with Wayne, who expressed his condolences on Davis’ death, the Dolphins, Colts, and Bills organizations honored the retired cornerback on Monday, as did former Colts wideout T.Y. Hilton and Colts team owner Jim Irsay.

During his decade-long NFL career, Davis has 22 interceptions, 2.0 sacks, and 344 solo tackles while playing for three different teams.
