‘Really Disappointing!’: Pete Carroll Expresses Bitterness…

The Seattle Seahawks had a good offseason after making the playoffs with Geno Smith at the helm. The Seahawks hit the jackpot in the draft, adding Devon Witherspoon, Jaxson Smith-Njigba, and Zach Charbonnet.

Because of their offseason signings, several expected the Seahawks to expand on last year’s success and potentially make a long playoff run, if not a Super Bowl appearance.

However, 13 weeks into the season, Seattle is 6-7 and on a four-game losing run heading into Monday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Head coach Pete Carroll is taking it personally after his team failed to live up to the great expectations set in the preseason.

“It’s really disappointing for me with all of the work we put in, that we missed on the opportunity to do something right,” Carroll said in a statement. “We practice and prepare to do well in games; that’s really what this is all about.” When the moment and opportunity present themselves, you’re in the right place, you see things correctly, and you respond precisely, which is what we’re aiming for. I take it personally when it doesn’t happen. It’s quite personal. It’s a personal response from me because I’m trying to get these folks right and they’re not as clean or sharp as they should be.”

The Seahawks still have four games remaining to put themselves in postseason contention, and it all starts against the Eagles on Monday Night Football.

Following the Eagles, Seattle faces Tennessee, Pittsburgh, and Arizona, all of which are “winnable” games for Carroll’s club, but they must break out of their present malaise. If there was ever a “right” time to play the Eagles, now is it.

Coach Nick Sirianni’s club is coming off back-to-back blowout defeats, so perhaps the Seahawks can get back on track at home.

The Seahawks’ season held a lot of potential. While the season hasn’t gone as planned, there is still plenty of football to make things right, but the margin for error has already vanished.

Carroll is dissatisfied with how the season has unfolded, but if the Seahawks fail to make the playoffs, his disappointment will be compounded.
