Reactions to Jim Harbaugh’s departure shared by a Michigan Wolverines 2025 4-Star Quarterback Recruit

The Michigan Wolverines are in the market for a new head coach after Jim Harbaugh left for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Any time there is a coaching change in college football, recruits tend to reconsider their commitment. Shortly after Harbaugh’s announcement, Carter Smith, a four-star quarterback in the 2025 cycle who had committed to Michigan, shared his feelings on the head coach leaving.

It doesn’t sound like Smith is reconsidering his commitment. “I’m not really to stressed over it (Harbaugh to the Chargers)…. It sucks to lose him, but I’m in good hands with Coach Moore and Coach Campbell.” Smith’s attitude seems to reflect the idea that Michigan is moving to hire offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore. Moore and quarterback coach Kirk Campbell were more involved in the recruiting process for the talented quarterback. If they are still with the program, the likelihood of Smith staying is high.

Is Sherrone Moore A Lock For The Job?

The state of Michigan requires that every job be posted for at least seven days before making a decision. This includes the head coaching position at the University of Michigan. While internally the university may have already made a decision, nothing can be announced officially until next week. Hiring Moore would make sense as he impressed when having to fill in for Harbaugh during his three-game suspension. Beating Penn State, Maryland, and Ohio State is a good audition for the head coaching position.

Jim Harbaugh is off to the NFL, but the Michigan Wolverines are hoping they can still field a championship-caliber team in 2024.
