Reactions from fans as Braves set to land player in first round of 2024 MLB Draft

SB Nation Reacts voters chime in on the direction the Braves should take in the 2024 MLB Draft.

We’re less than a month away from the 2024 MLB Draft, and the Atlanta Braves have the 24th pick in the first round. This week’s SB Nation Reacts question asks what kind of player the Braves should draft. Position player or pitcher?

Unsurprisingly, 57% of Reacts voters opted for a position player. The Braves have gone heavy in recent years, and there aren’t many high-end prospects on the position player side. That hasn’t mattered much because the team has the most of its position player core locked up for the long term, but there’s a strong case to be made that they should seek a position player.

We were all grieved by the passing of Hall of Fame outfielder Willie Mays on June 18. This week’s national question asked, “Who is the greatest MLB player of all time?” Mays narrowly defeated Babe Ruth, collecting 37% of the vote.

I believe Hank Aaron should have received more assistance. Everyone focuses on the home runs, but his 2,297 RBIs are a record that may never be broken. Aaron was far more than just a home run hitter. Even without his 755 career home runs, he would still have 3,000 lifetime hits.

Our second national question asks about the most famous moment in MLB history. Mays’ over-the-shoulder catch received 36% of the vote, and it is difficult to argue with that outcome. Aaron passed Babe Ruth and ended second with 28%. Fourteen-year-old me asks why Kirk Gibson’s World Series home run against the Athletics isn’t on the list.

Thanks to everyone that voted. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. We will be back again next week.
