Although he has retired from coaching football, Nick Saban will be very busy this autumn.

Saban will not only advise incoming Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer and the team, but he will also work as an analyst for ESPN’s college football and NFL Draft coverage.

Many people predicted that Saban would make the shift to media following his coaching days, and now that it’s a reality, one of his former players, who has also made the transition from the field to behind the camera, is eager for him to join the team at ESPN.

Greg McElroy, a former Crimson Tide quarterback and ESPN analyst, responded to the news on his podcast “Always College Football” on Wednesday.

“I’m excited to see how he does,” McElroy remarked. “I think he’ll do fantastic, by the way. “Nobody knows football like Nick Saban.”

Saban’s voice will be essential not only for his previous game video breakdowns and coaching stories, but also for his perspective on what the future of college football should be, which many people have respected.

McElroy believes that having the ESPN platform will only strengthen his feelings about the status of the game.

“No one has more credibility than Nick Saban as it relates to not just what’s going on on the field but I think outside the realm of college football and what we need now is leadership,” McElroy said in an interview. “We need direction. We need people willing to speak up and say, “This is what we should do.” We need common sense.

“I believe that hearing it on television will help to bring it in. When Nick Saban says something, you listen. Whether you like him or detest him, you presumably value what he has to say and the position from which it is coming.
