According to Shams Charania on the Pat McAfee show, the club is one of several organizations that have scouted Bronny James ahead of the 2024 NBA Draft. Other teams include the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat, as well as “plenty of teams” interested in James, who may declare for the draft this year.

The 6-foot-4 James is LeBron James’ eldest son and is now a freshman at USC. He was formerly considered one of the draft’s best prospects, but the 19-year-old suffered a cardiac collapse in July as a result of a congenital heart abnormality and has only appeared in 17 games this season, averaging 5.9 points per game.

LeBron James has consistently stated that he would like to play alongside his son someday, potentially enticing a team to select his kid early in the NBA. It adds to the excitement surrounding Bronny James, who is not currently regarded as a top prospect and should join the draft this year.

Toronto is unlikely to have much, if any, cap flexibility this summer to actively pursue LeBron James should be allowed to opt out of his contract with the Lakers. The Raptors may potentially save more than $30 million by waiving the rights to Gary Trent Jr. and Bruce Brown Jr. while signing Kelly Olynyk to a contract deal. A cost-cutting deal involving Chris Boucher or Jalen McDaniels could free up more space, but it’s difficult to imagine Toronto clearing max contract money this summer.

The Raptors will have at least two picks in this year’s draft and may keep their own pick if it falls among the top six.
