Rams Grab Player From Browns to Assume Leading Position

On Tuesday, kicker Lucas Havrisik was plucked from the Cleveland Browns practice squad and signed by the Los Angeles Rams to take Brett Maher’s spot.

Maher failed to convert multiple field goals in the Rams’ 24-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, marking his third such attempt this season. When Maher was a member of the Rams, he only made 73.9% of his field goals and missed an extra point, which resulted in his release.

After the Browns acquired veteran kicker Dustin Hopkins and parted ways with previous fourth-round selection Cade York, Havrisik was signed as a backup option.

Although Havrisik has never attempted an NFL kick, the Rams plan to give it a try. Over the course of five seasons at the University of Arizona, Havrisik made 34 of 53 field goals and 73 of 78 extra point tries. With the Wildcats, he became well-known for his leg by making five field goals that were longer than fifty yards.

Running back Jordan Wilkins was signed by the Browns to a practice squad berth, but there may be more roster changes in the next few days. PJ Walker, who has already been promoted three times from the practice squad, is Deshaun Watson’s primary backup quarterback. He needs to be added to the active roster if he is to keep playing that position.

Dustin Hopkins Making History With the Browns

This offseason, the Browns made the difficult choice to cut ties with York and acquired Hopkins in exchange. Hopkins has been a fantastic addition; he has made history by going 16 of 18 on field goal attempts.

Hopkins made history by becoming the first kicker to ever convert 50-plus-yard kicks in five straight games with a pair of 54-yard field goals against the Colts.

Dustin is simply kicking at an extremely high level. Kevin Stefanski, head coach of the Browns, remarked, “I mean, the guy prepares well, fits this team, really fits in with this team really well.” “We are quite confident in him. The guy just keeps doing well for his football team, even though we don’t want him to be kicking from more than fifty yards too frequently.

Browns Have Multiple Injury Concerns

With a win over the Colts, the Browns improved to 4-2 and did so in spite of some extremely serious injuries. The most important one concerns Watson, who, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, is suffering from a “strain of the subscapularis within the rotator cuff and he continues to have both pain and weakness with movement.”

Despite missing two games due to the injury, Watson attempted to play against the Colts. He was unsteady, only completing 1 of 5 passes for 5 yards while also throwing an interception. Watson left the game after taking a big hit in the first quarter, and it is unclear if he will be available to play against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday in Week 8.

Jerome Ford, a running back for the Browns, will also be out with an injury. The starting running back for Cleveland is projected to miss one to two weeks due to an ankle injury. It’s anticipated that Pierre Strong Jr. and Kareem Hunt will step up.

Both starting right guard Jack Conklin and standout running back Nick Chubb of the Browns are out for the season.
