Raiders are considering a potential ‘move’ in a major trade for a top player during the 2024

The Las Vegas Raiders presently have the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, which puts them well out of reach of acquiring one of this year’s top prospects.

However, with the NFL Combine approaching, there is rising speculation that Las Vegas could make a move by draft night.

After appointing Antonio Pierce as head coach and hiring Tom Telesco as general manager, the Raiders’ roster and probable moves in the NFL Draft have become the focus of attention.

At one point, Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy appeared to be a possible candidate for the thirteenth overall selection.

Las Vegas Raiders HC and GM have opposing thoughts on quarterback in 2024.

McCarthy is now poised to leave before Las Vegas had a chance to select him. Given the prospect of four quarterbacks being selected inside the top 12 picks, Telesco and Pierce may need to be proactive if they want to replace starting quarterback Aidan O’Connell in 2024.

On SportsCenter, ESPN NFL expert Jeremy Fowler stated that the Raiders “could be a mover and shaker” around draft time, with Pierce particularly interested in LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Daniels, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, is projected as a top-six choice in the 2024 NFL Draft. While he isn’t as polished a passer as Caleb Williams or Drake Maye, Daniels’ superior agility and arm strength make him the foundation of an offense.

According to Fowler, the Raiders’ front management is considering trading up for the third overall pick.

This is not the first time Daniels has been linked to Las Vegas. He developed a close friendship with Pierce while the Raiders’ head coach was a recruiting coordinator at Arizona State. From 2018 to 2019, the two developed a solid bond that still remains today.

While Fowler did not mention the potential cost of moving up to the No. 3 overall pick, the New England Patriots are willing to trade down.

However, Las Vegas would most likely have to trade first- and second-round picks in 2024 and 2025, at the very least. If Las Vegas is unable to leap up for Daniels, it may explore starting O’Connell in 2024 with a rookie quarterback selected on Day 2.
