Rafael Nadal sent a special message to Carlos Alcaraz following his loss to Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles final at the Paris Olympics.

On Sunday, Novak Djokovic won the men’s singles gold medal match at the current Paris Olympics 2024 in a nail-biting finish. The tennis tournaments at the Olympics are being place at Roland Garros, and the Serbian’s victory was especially significant because it was also his first Olympic gold medal. Djokovic triumphed in straight sets, 7-6 (3) 7-6 (2), earning his second Olympic medal.

Both players were quite emotional following the match, but for different reasons. Djokovic was ecstatic after winning, and Alcaraz broke down. Rafael Nadal took to X with a special message for his countryman. He left a message: “Carlos, although I know that today is a difficult day, value a medal that is very important for the entire country and you will see, over time, that it is for you too.”

“Thank you for this fantastic week and the medal you’ve given to Spanish sport. “A hug,” he said.

Nadal also sent a personal congratulations message to Djokovic. He said on Instagram story, “Congratulations Novak on completing the (Career) Golden Slam and achieving your goals. “Well done.”

The match was tough, with the opening set lasting more than 1.5 hours and being full of amazing strokes and rallies. Meanwhile, in the second tiebreaker, after Djokovic hit a cross-court winner on the run for a 10-shot point and a 3-2 lead, he waved his arms to inspire the crowd even more. He soon finished the game with a forehand winner.

Following his victory, Djokovic stated, “When I consider everything, this is probably the biggest sporting success I’ve ever had in my career.” This kind of transcends anything that I thought, hoped to experience, and feel.
