Rafael Nadal has penned a touching message to his Olympic doubles partner Carlos Alcaraz following his elimination in Paris. Tennis fans were hoping for the Spanish super-duo to win the championship, but they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Team USA’s Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram.

Nadal has left the Games after what possibly be his farewell match at Roland Garros. However, Alcaraz is still competing in the singles and has a chance of winning a medal.

Meanwhile, Nadal remains concerned about his own future. The 38-year-old has made a spectacular comeback this year, after missing a year owing to a series of injuries.

Nadal has yet to make a decision on what he will do after the Olympics. He startled many at the French Open by asserting that he could play for a bit longer, despite earlier implying that 2024 would be his last year on tour.

Nadal stated: “I’m not sure whether this was the last time [at Roland Garros]. Possibly, yes. For me, one stage has ended: my goal was to focus on the Olympic Games and then make a decision, which I will do.

“Now I’m going home to recover and disconnect for a bit. When I have [a clear head], I will decide what the next step is for me. See how much passion I have, how I feel about things, and how strong I am to choose one option over another.”

Unpacking the nuances of his upcoming decision, Nadal continued: “I have complete freedom, and I believe I have worked hard throughout my life to make the decision when and how I feel it.

“In that sense, I am a somewhat calm person who need my time. I’ll let you know what my next step is once I know it, but for now, my next step is to return home, spend time with my family, and rest.”
