Racism claims against Springbok are being looked into by SA Rugby

Inquiry into an alleged racist incident that occurred during the World Cup semi-final between the Springboks and England has been confirmed by SA Rugby.

Defeated in the semifinals In response to accusations made by England over the use of a “racial slur” by Springbok hooker Bongi Mbonambi against one of their players, SA Rugby has launched an investigation.

WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN SAID DURING THE EVENT

In a memorable semi-final arm wrestling, the Springboks battled hard to overcome England 16–15 in order to proceed to the Rugby World Cup 2023 championship game.

While South Africans are still recovering from the thrilling victory, England has made a shocking claim against one of the most prominent and important players for the Springboks, which has compelled SA Rugby to act.

Tom Curry, an England flanker, claims that Mbonambi called him a “white c***.”

As picked up by the referee’s microphone, Curry could be heard asking Ben O’Keeffe: “Sir, sir, if their hooker calls me a white c**t, what do I do?”. And referee O’Keeffe replied: “Nothing, please.”

Mbonambi’s claimed abuse is not supported by any audible evidence, but Curry later disclosed that he was told something inappropriate.

But instead of going into more detail, he said, “It does not need to be talked about.”

SA RUGBY BEGINS EXAMINATION OF SPRINGBOK

The national rugby governing body of South Africa, known as SA Rugby, responded on Sunday by stating that they are investigating the event.

“We are examining the relevant information and are aware of the claim, which we take very seriously. If any evidence is found to support the claim, we will speak with Bongi,” a statement from SA Rugby stated.
