Pundit believes Ipswich Town will sign EPL star
Ipswich Town are the highest scorers in the Championship after 22 games this season, with many assuming that their attacking brilliance will be the key to a second consecutive promotion.
Kieran McKenna’s side has only failed to score once this season, in a 2-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion on November 25th, with the Tractor Boys currently having the most prolific attacking force in the league with 47 goals.
Despite being so feared, there isn’t a standout goalscorer on this team, as evidenced by the table below, which lists all of Town’s forwards who have scored so far.
McKenna to be handed £3m in new forward hunt
This prompted Alan Nixon to post on Patreon that the Tractor Boys board is prepared to pay the Northern Irishman £3 million to find the next answer in his offensive department.
Carlton Palmer, speaking exclusively to FLW, acknowledges that Town have had a variety of goal scorers, but believes that despite having four attackers who have contributed to 26 of those 47 goals, none of them will conclude the season with at least 20 goals.
“It is reported that the Ipswich board are set to back Kieran McKenna in the January transfer window. He’s set to be given a £3m transfer pot to strengthen in the attacking area.
“Ipswich sit joint top of the table alongside Leicester on 52 points, and have scored the most with 47 in 22 matches. They have shared the goals around, Chaplin (8), Broadhead (8), Hirst (6), Ladapo (4) – they’ve not had one striker who looks capable of hitting 20 goals.” Palmer continued.
“They drew against Norwich on the weekend, but created plenty of chances. They are just missing that ruthlessness that a 20-goal a season man brings. I think if they get that man, that could see them over the line for back-to-back promotions.”
McKenna to potentially use Man United links in pursuit of new forward
Palmer went on to say that McKenna will have to be incredibly savvy in the upcoming window to locate the player who will add a new dimension to Town’s assault, as £3m isn’t a lot of money in today’s market.
“£3m for an out-and-out goalscorer is not a lot of money, and I’m sure Kieran has one eye on the Premier League, so he may look at someone capable of making the step up.”
“Kieran has used the loan market to good advantage this season, taking young players from Premier League clubs, so that might be one avenue he looks to go down.”
The 58-year-old went on to say that, because of his prior links with Manchester United, Amad Diallo, who pleased many in the second division last season with 14 goals for Sunderland, could be a feasible target.
“Kieran is also linked to Manchester United.” Amad Diallo from Sunderland is one player who has previously impressed in the Championship. He’s now fully fit and can play anywhere around the front line, which would suit Ipswich’s style of play. That is one possibility.”
Is Diallo the answer for Ipswich Town?
With Diallo’s versatility to play across the frontline, comparable to Nathan Broadhead, it’s not the worst idea in the world, and given his talent last season, it would be a statement acquisition moving forward.
Sunderland are interested in bringing the Ivorian back to the Stadium of Light, according to TeamTalk. The story goes on to say that the Black Cats will face Championship opposition this season, therefore it remains to be seen whether the Blues have him on their respective radar as well.
