PNE to battle Birmingham in the race for incredible midfielder

Preston North End are in talks to recruit Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden, according to The Telegraph.

Preston North End is now 12th in the Championship table and has been experiencing erratic results for some time. Despite this, they are only two points behind the top six, and a strong January window might put them in a fantastic position to keep up the pressure on those above.

Ryan Lowe’s team has only won two of their previous six second-tier games, and they need to start picking up points more frequently or risk dropping down the table and out of the Championship play-off battle.

Hayden, 28, has previously been linked to many Championship clubs. Last week, Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday, and Plymouth Argyle were all reported to be interested. However, Preston North End currently appear to be winning the race.

According to a fresh rumor, Lowe’s side is in talks with Newcastle to recruit the central midfielder who spent the first part of the season on loan in Belgium.

A solid addition.

Hayden has extensive experience in both the Championship and the Premier League, and at 28 years old, he still has a lot to give.

He played 14 second-tier appearances for Norwich City on loan last season and has not appeared for Newcastle United since the 2021/22 season.

It appears that both parties are ready to move forward, with Hayden being at an age when consistent game time is critical.

It would be intriguing to see whether any of the clubs linked with Hayden last week make a late effort to enter the competition, but as things stand, Preston North End may acquire a good player.

Up next for Lowe’s side is a trip to Elland Road to play Preston North End this Sunday.
