Plans have been submitted to convert a historic grade II-listed building in Ipswich’s town centre into three flats, reverting the structure to its original function.
The building on Lower Brook Street currently has approval to be used as an office.
The house, the only surviving structure from a terrace of ten early nineteenth-century homes, is surrounded by residential units and offices.
The proposed change of use will restore the building to its original intended purpose.
The three flats would be comparable in size, with an open plan kitchen and dining area, a double bedroom, a shower room, and one of them, the top floor flat, featuring a separate study.
According to the planning statement, restoring the “historic residential use of this building will support the maintenance and continued long-term viability of this building,” and the proposal would cause “less than substantial harm to the listed building and would enhance the character and reintroduce lost original features.”
Ipswich Borough Council will discuss the plans in due course.
