Pirates Are Interested In The Signing Of Former Cardinals Pitcher

It appears that a former Cardinals player could be of interest to the Pirates.

This offseason, a former member of the St. Louis Cardinals is searching for a new residence.

Jack Flaherty, a former pitcher for the Cardinals, is a free agent following a poor 2023 campaign in which he split time between the Baltimore Orioles and St Louis. The season started with Flaherty with the Cardinals, but as things spiraled out of control, he was traded before the trade deadline.

With Baltimore, Flaherty made nine appearances (seven starts) and recorded a 6.75 ERA. He is currently searching for a new residence as a free agent. The Pittsburgh Pirates are one team that might be interested in signing him this offseason, according to Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat.

“Another nugget from the morning — the Pirates are monitoring the market around Jack Flaherty and are interested in bringing him in on a short-term deal should he be unable to find a longer commitment,” Jones stated.

At one point, Flaherty looked like one of baseball’s best young pitchers, but his career has been derailed by injuries and erratic play. Despite this, he still has a lot of potential because he is only 28 years old. Flaherty, who is only 23 years old, had his best season in 2019. In 33 starts, he recorded a 2.75 ERA. He has struggled with numerous injuries since then and hasn’t been able to play at the same level.

Although he has a lot of potential, he will need to find a way to maintain his health in order to play at that level again.
