Phillies’ get predictably pushes angry Braves fans into breakdown condition

The 34-14 Phillies are leading the way in the NL East this season, and Braves fans are having a hard time coping.

The Philadelphia Phillies are finally receiving the accolades they deserve from baseball writers and national media sources, who have begun to place them at the top of an expanding list of weekly power rankings. With a 34-14 record, the Phillies have a 5.5-game lead over the rival Atlanta Braves for first place in the National League East.

The Phillies are on a historic run after 48 games. Following an 11-5 thrashing of the Washington Nationals on Sunday, they are tied with the 1976 and 1993 teams for the best record in franchise history through the same number of games. If the Phillies’ winning streak continues into June, they could approach historic territory.

While Phillies fans continue to enjoy a squad that has proven capable of defeating opponents in a number of ways, some skeptics believe the Phillies’ recent success is due to a weak schedule. While no one will deny that the Phillies have faced the top teams in baseball, it’s evident that many of these critics are failing to appreciate that the Phillies have one of the league’s most balanced rosters.

Atlanta Braves fans are struggling to accept the fact that their team is now ranked second in the NL East rankings. Last year, after being knocked out of the playoffs by the Phillies for the second time in a row, Braves supporters complained about how unfair it was that the Braves had clinched a first-round bye and had to wait five days while the Wild Card Series played out.

This season, Braves fans believe the Phillies’ success is due to a weak schedule, and that the team is not as good as the power rankings and sole control of first place now indicate.

And it’s hardly no surprise that many of them have gone to social media to vent their frustration. So much for southern hospitality.

Phillies’ success predictably sends angry Braves fans into mindless meltdown

It’s a challenging moment to be a Braves fan. We’ve all seen how the last two Octobers have gone for a team that has won the NL East division six years in a row but has only won one World Series. To add insult to injury, the Braves lost ace pitcher Spencer Strider for the year. Unfortunately, third baseman Austin Riley has been out since May 12, while 2023 NL MVP Ronald Acuña Jr. and first baseman Matt Olson are struggling at the plate.

That didn’t stop X user @ATLhoe12345 who goes by the name of Max Fried Enthusiast — is that an actual hobby? — of accusing the Phillies of being the first team to win 30 games due to a weak schedule.

The Phillies can only play the schedule that is set for them, Max Fried Enthusiast. With two of the previous three series on the Braves’ schedule featuring the 21-25 New York Mets and the San Diego Padres (who were 22-24 until winning the first three over Atlanta this weekend), the schedule hasn’t been particularly difficult for the second-place Braves recently.

X user @ccw342, also known as Cory, sadly got his math wrong when he claimed that all of the “teams they’ve [Phillies] played haven’t won 30 combined.” We all know that’s impossible, and we should take this moment to remind Corey that most phones now include a calculator app. Another alternative is to add and subtract using your fingertips. Good luck.

Mother Nature is plotting against the Braves

The Braves have also struggled with the weather in 2024. Because to rainouts, the Braves have played five fewer games than the Phillies entering the second game of their Monday doubleheader. While this is terrible, X user @gpphipps10, as Greg (Always #BravesCountry), believes the Phillies have made a pact with Mother Nature to obtain an unfair advantage this season.

Not only did MLB schedule writers give the Phillies a gift, but the weather is also working against the Braves’ playoff hopes. Is it conceivable that you’re taking the TV show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia too literally? “Atta boy” Greg.

The postseason is not important for this Braves fan

There has been a lot of talk over the last two seasons about the Phillies embarrassing the Braves in the playoffs as a Wild Card team. The aforementioned grumbling over clinching a five-day bye is the most prevalent reason given by Braves supporters for their two most recent early exits in October.

But for X user and Braves fan @CondorYT_Gaming, postseason performance is inexplicably less important than the regular season in his view. Yes, you read that correctly.

That’s a rough take that certainly won’t age well. Be sure to circle July 5-7 on your calendar when the Phillies will take on the Braves for a three-game series in Atlanta.
