Pete Carroll Shares Russell Wilson and Richard Sherman’s Farewell Dinner Messages

Following the announcement that Pete Carroll will be stepping down as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, his current and former players met for a dinner in celebration of their boss, friend, and mentor. Former Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and retired cornerback Richard Sherman, who haven’t been on good terms in years, attended this dinner.

However, as Carroll was leaving the restaurant, the two former Seattle stars credited their coach for something no one expected to happen.

Pete Carroll’s Goodbye Dinner at Richard Sherman’s Restaurant

Pete Carroll leaves his position as the Seahawks’ head coach as the franchise’s winningest coach and the only one to deliver a Super Bowl to Seattle. As a result, several of his teammates wanted to gather together to commemorate his time on the team and his accomplishments.

According to Seattle Refined, the gathering took place on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Legion, a restaurant in Bellevue, Washington owned by former “Legion of Boom” players Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor.

The Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson surprised Carroll and his former colleagues by traveling in from Denver. The Super Bowl-winning quarterback shared photos from the meal with Carroll and many of the Seahawks in attendance.

Wilson’s attendance at this event was unusual for a number of reasons, not the least of which being that the quarterback and the “Legion of Boom” had publicly feuded in the past. However, Carroll believes that this supper was the first step toward burying the hatchet.

Carroll’s Dinner Got Russell Wilson and Sherman Talking Again

There is no love lost between Russell Wilson and his Super Bowl-winning defensive teammates, with Richard Sherman being the most vocal in his criticism of the quarterback.

However, after Pete Carroll’s celebration, the two began talking again, according to their former head coach on Seattle Sports radio.

“I’m walking out the door at the end of it, and we’re getting ready to go, and Richard and Russell are standing in the doorway,” Carroll told Mike Salk, the host of the show. “And they both look at me and said, ‘Look what had to happen for you to get us two talking to one another and having fun?'”

This is big news in the Wilson-Sherman-LOB drama that has been going on for years now.

Wilson vs. the “Legion of Boom”

As the confetti descended on the Seahawks on February 2, 2014, it appeared that Russell Wilson and the “Legion of Boom” were a perfect match. Things began to fall apart just 364 days later, when Wilson threw an interception on the goal line to New England Patriots CB Malcolm Butler.

That play marked the beginning of a public schism between Carroll, Wilson, and the defense. Much of this has been covered on “The Richard Sherman’s Podcast” with Pete Carroll and former defensive teammates like KJ Wright.

The Seahawks’ defense believed that Carroll gave Wilson preferential treatment and that he was not held to the same level of accountability as Sherman and his defensive teammates. Several former Seahawks have criticized Wilson over the years, but none have the national media platform that Sherman, now a pre-game analyst for Amazon Prime Video, possesses.

Time, like with many feuds, heals all wounds. And, with the entire “Legion of Boom” now out of the picture and Wilson suffering in what appears to be his final days with the Broncos, it appears that all sides are ready to move on.

However, as Wilson and Sherman pointed out, it’s unfortunate that Carroll’s job loss triggered the healing process.
