Pete Carroll ready to coaching again after being fired by the Seattle Seahawks

Pete Carroll isn’t ready to retire as a coach.

Carroll was fired as the Seattle Seahawks’ head coach on Wednesday. Carroll’s switch to an advising role with the franchise was announced by team owner Jody Allen.

Carroll, 72, made it clear at his press conference that he has plenty of energy and isn’t tired after 14 seasons as the Seahawks’ head coach.

“I’m completely jacked. “I’m pumped,” Carroll remarked on Wednesday. “I’m not exhausted. I’m not exhausted. You all gave it your all. You didn’t exhaust me. I’m meant to go lay on a cot somewhere at the end of the season. “I’m not feeling that way.”

The Seahawks finished 9-8 in 2023, missing the playoffs for only the fourth time under Carroll. Carroll made it clear on Friday that he believes he still possesses the requisite tools to be a successful head coach.

“I have plenty of energy, thought, and willingness for it, but I can’t imagine there’s a place, the right one.” I’m not sure.”I’m open to anything, but don’t hold your breath,” Carroll said Friday on his weekly radio show on Seattle Sports 710-AM. “There’s a lot of world out here that I’m excited to challenge and pursue.” So, if that occurs, it occurs. We’ll see what happens. “I’m not sure what to tell you about that yet.”

Carroll, who stated that he planned to remain as Seahawks coach after their final game of the season, appeared frustrated during his end-of-season discussion with Allen. Carroll stated that he expected to be “challenged” during the meeting, but he was challenged by people who are not “football people.”

“The difficult part, if you guys could know, is that they’re not football people.” They’re not coaches, so getting to the true specifics is difficult for others,” Carroll stated on Seattle Sports 710-AM. “… Because every year it feels like that, that you’re gonna be challenged and you’re challenged by opinions that are kind of media opinions, because what else do people have when you’re outside of the game?” he went on to say. “How could you know other than what you guys talk about on the radio, what the articles say, and what the pundits say?”

That’s why you have to walk in knowing what you’re dealing with and then try to talk through it to get to the bottom of things. That will always be a difficulty because when you don’t have actual football people calling the shots, you have to try to make sense of it, just like we try to make sense of it for your viewers. It’s not any different.”

Carroll led Seattle to a 137-98-1 record in 14 seasons, concluding with a winning record every year from 2012 to 2020. He concluded his term as the franchise’s winningest coach. He guided the Seahawks to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. He led the Seahawks to a 43-8 victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 48, but they were defeated 28-24 by the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 49.
